According to historical records, more than 3,000 Ottoman soldiers were martyred in the Sinop raid carried out by the Russian navy on November 30, 1853. The Sea Martyrs Fountain was built in the city as a painful memory of the raid. This fountain reminds us of the Ottoman Echoes in every way. This historical fountain was built in the 1850s as a symbol of the pain of the Ottoman fleet being defeated by the Russians, known as the Sinop Raid.
